  • Here are two fried sides. Each one references folk music and extended jams. There is a lot in the way of elongated time. Repetition plays a large part in both compositions. Melodies are present. Focus is placed on the intensity of the pieces, subtle shifts towards greater, faster, louder player. Both of these have the distinct presence of the natural evolution of the people’s folk music meets experimental. Everything on here feels welcoming to new ideas. Inez Lightfoot’s piece is the lighter of the two. She takes an airier approach to her songs. Sounds have room to breathe. The pieces reference rock but only in passing. All three of the live pieces work quite well together. Her main influence appears to be newer versions of collective drone-groups such as the Vibracathedral Orchestra. Like them she manages to take repetitive movements and force them into a swirling sea of sound. Eventually they reach such intensity that they almost explode. My favorite part of her side is the heart, the second piece, where all of her talents are laid bare. Sun Cycles takes a more rock based approach. The group has a bone-dry western twang behind it. Unlike Inez’s piece, this is all one take. It is quite a focused piece. Little drifts away from the main guitar appear to be the most interesting aspects. Spirituality appears to reign large in this piece as well. There’s almost a mystical quality at work in both these pieces. Each group shows their own take on it.
