This is the first Mike Parker release I have purchased since GPH20 released back in 2013. Glad I did, as this one has the producer at the absolute top of his game. Mind you, not that it differs from a lot of his signature output, however the carefully crafted hypnotic loops are picture perfect this time around, on all four tracks. It’s minimal enough to be blended with something else. But not so minimal that it’s completely boring by itself. If you want your techno to get as much as it can out of only a few sounds, then you owe this 12" to yourself. Typically for a track of his, they are all devoid of peaks or breaks. Despite this, there is not a single second of stagnation at any point in the EP.Distant atmospherics and pulsing hook echoes dominate, all the while depending on unfathomable background accents to coast its way through.Tactfully done grooves, clinical loops, steady backseat - yet utterly floor friendly - kick drums keep the cohesive structure of the EP, while the synth-work takes on the brunt of the delivery. Becoming a master of making the most out of nothing requires a lot of talent and certain replicable skills which can be applied to many aspects of the production and this is where Mike Parker’s manipulation of sparse elements, meticulous layering and pristine arrangements come in.As with all of his highly esteemed work, one cannot just skip through the track at any given point and reap the benefits it potentially has to offer. In order to fully appreciate its value, it must be listened to from start to finish, or in context of a mix. The uncomfortable part of this vinyl comes to life when the A side is up. Why? Because you have to snap out of your lala land, get up and flip the darn thing over. Absolutely flawless techno excursions by one the style's key figures. All killer no filler. Not a dull millisecond here, and some of my favorite grooves to get locked into in 2015 are deployed over this piece of wax.
